How are you involved in education?
I am the newly minted Technology Integrator at The Philadelphia School, right across the Schuylkill River from our Penn host site!

Have you ever attended an edcamp before? If so, which one(s)?
I have been fortunate to attend the 2014 and 2015 EdCamp Philly, the second at which I led a session on creating original curriculum content while teaching in a 1:1 iPad-to-student educational ecosystem.

What do you hope to get out of edcamp DV-IS?
I love meeting other passionate educators who are doing amazing things with educational technology. I am looking to pick the brains of administrators and leaders who come up with fun and engaging professional development.

If you were to post a discussion topic for a session at edcamp DV-IS, what would it be?

  • Removing the Stigma (and silent “ugh” or groan) of Professional Development with Innovation and “Unconferencing”
  • Tips on hosting a “mini edcamp” within our own schools!

Refreshed and Re-energized after ISTE 2015

Posted on Updated on

Several of EdCamp DV-IS’ organizers had the opportunity to go to ISTE last week at the PA Convention Center.  It was a great experience, and one of the highlights was getting a chance to connect with other EdCamp organizers from across the nation. About fifty or so educators met in true EdCamp fashion, where we all got a chance to ask our questions, find common topics to discuss about the best practices of running an EdCamp, and broke out into smaller groups to have our conversations.  We learned a great deal and left reassured that the “magic of EdCamp” would happen and that organic discussions would be sparked at EdCamp.

Many thanks to the awesome leaders at the EdCamp Foundation. We were so fortunate to meet and connect with Hadley Ferguson (@hadleyjf), Kim Sivick (@ksivick), Brooke Mulartrick (), who live in the Philly area! AND of course, Kristen Swanson (@kristenswanson)!  Thank you so much for all your wise words, support and advice!

Spread the Word!

In just two weeks, we’ve “sold” 20% of the spots available for edcamp DV-IS! We are excited that that there is so much interest in this event.  Please, PLEASE spread the word about edcamp DV-IS.  We know that good, quality and affordable professional development is hard to come by in many smaller independent schools. Edcamps are FREE and one of the best ways to connect face-to-face with other educators who share your passion in specific topics. It’s also great for ensuring that you get a day of learning geared towards YOUR interests.  You get to pick the session topics and decide which ones you want to attend.

Overall, edcamp is a very relaxed and informal day of learning. We chose early August to host edcamp DV-IS because even though it’s hard to think about work in the summertime, one day of edcamp is well worth it! We think that you’ll leave refreshed and rejuvenated with new ideas, and still have time to mull over it in your head to be able to implement those ideas in your classroom when school starts back up.

So… why haven’t you signed up yet? If you’ve already signed up, tell all your friends! We’re looking forward to a powerful day of learning and sharing at edcamp DV-IS!

Save the Date!

EdCamp Delaware Valley Independent Schools is coming August 6th! This is the first EdCamp in the greater Philadelphia area geared just for independent schools.  All educators are welcome, though we know that faculty at independent schools face slightly different challenges than our public school counterparts.  What better way then to spend a day with other like-minded educators who share similar experiences? Best of all, it’s FREE thanks to our sponsors!  It’s sure to be a fun-filled day with good discussions and great ideas to get your school year off to a great start (and get Act 48 credits)!
